ISSUE 3 AUGUST 2004
Welcome to the 3rd edition of the Denby Dale Parish Council newsletter. We are striving to reach as many people as possible with this publication to help keep you informed of what is happening in the Parish and current issues the Council is involved in. Unfortunately, costs prevent us mailing this out to every household in the Parish but it is available through the Libraries and can be found on the Denby Dale Website at denbydale.com. If you have any forthcoming events you would like featured in this newsletter please send information to our clerk, Mrs Wood, at Skelmanthorpe Council Offices or ring Clr. JC Birdsall, details below.
PARISH PLAN
Denby Dale Parish Council is intending to produce a Parish Plan over the next year. The Plan will review the area as it is, including open spaces, social and medical facilities, transport, housing, policing, the state of pavements and roads, and any other aspects that are raised during the public consultation. The Plan will then give a statement of the desired future and the priorities for achieving that future. To collect the information and to raise those issues that are seen to be important for shaping the future, the Parish Council will be inviting all schools and relevant societies in the area to participate in a public consultation. We will also welcome any support and data that individuals can offer towards the Denby Dale Parish Plan. Please contact Clr. Robert Allen on 01484 866131 if you would like to become involved.
RECENT MATTERS
May 2004
The Annual Council Meeting saw the election of Clr. RG Allen as new Chair and as Vice-Chair, Clr. JA Barlow. Councillors were also elected to represent Denby Dale within other organisations. The Council received a report from Mrs Lumb of Shelley College explaining that after further consultation with residents and young people, recreational equipment was to be ordered and installed at Sunny Bank, Denby Dale. This is part of an on going collaboration between the Council and Shelley College to improve facilities for young people within our Parish.
June 2004
The Council received a presentation by John Laycock, the Development Officer for Community Liaison, who explained how his team were involved with support for the disadvantaged within the community. He also spoke about the availability of grants of up to £3,000 to existing and newly formed groups. Public discussion time saw representation from residents concerned about the wind turbines proposed for Pool Hill Denby Dale. It was agreed by the Council to keep abreast of regulations relating to the locating of windfarms and that information be sought on possible health problems associated with wind turbines. The Council continued to show concern about the withdrawal of bus service 484 and are again to raise this issue with Metro. The Council have also raised an objection with B.T. over the proposed removal of 3 phone boxes within the Parish as it was felt they provide a vital service to the community.
July 2004
Rod Payne and Chris Cowen of the Denby Dale Parish Environment Trust gave a presentation of the Landscape Character Assessment they have carried out and how work was on going. This document is well worth a look and can be found at denbydale.com or in the Libraries. The Council received a traffic survey carried out by Emley residents and agreed to pursue improved road safety measures with Kirklees MC. It was agreed to contact the Post Office to see if the opening times for collecting parcels at Scissett Sorting Office could be extended. Wind Turbines After representations from residents concerned about the possible siting of wind turbines within the Parish or surrounding area, the Council have decided to host an open public meeting. This will be held on Tuesday 21 September, 7.30 pm in St. Augustine’s Church Scissett. This meeting is for anybody with a genuine interest both for and against, or for those who simply wish to know more about the possible siting of wind turbines within our Parish and surrounding area.
