Welcome to Issue 9 of the Parish Council Newsletter.Latest NewsRepresentatives of the staff of Honley Ambulance Station addressed the Council in Public Discussion Time at November’s Parish Council Meeting. They expressed their concerns at proposals to reduce the number of crews operating out of Honley, particularly with respect to only one crew being on duty between 4pm and 8am. The Council expressed grave concerns at the proposals and resolved to write to WYMAS and other associated bodies. The Council did not regard the response to these letters as being helpful to the situation and at December’s Council Meeting resolved to arrange a Public Meeting with representatives of WYMAS and other appropriate agencies to which representatives of other affected Parish Councils would be invited. However, the latest information would seem to suggest that WYMAS have scrapped their proposals, at least for the time being, hence the Public Meeting has been put on hold. November 2005Members of the Birdsedge Village Hall Committee spoke at this meeting expressing their concerns at the problems they were having in obtaining planning permission to bring facilities at the hall up to present day standards. The Council resolved to support them by making representations to the relevant departments at Kirklees MC.The Council received a report on the outcome of the Kirklees Cabinet decision on Scissett Mount Care Home that the home would unfortunately close but that residents would be offered places at the new Care Home in Newsome. It was also reported that Cabinet had agreed that priority should be given to the re-use of the site for some form of elderly care provision in the future.Following a request of Kirklees Leisure Services for information as to the relocation of the allotment holders at Cumberworth Road the Clerk was able to report that work would commence shortly on the new site at Windmill Crescent and that it would be fully operational for the start of the growing season in April 2006. December 2005The Council welcomed Mrs. Lucy Moore as co-opted member for Clayton West to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Clr. Bowie.A member of the public spoke about problems occurring on school buses between Clayton West and Scissett Middle School and Shelley College. Sharon Weavill from Kirkless MC and Chris Davis from Metro were present to answer questions about school transport. Many issues were raised and discussed in particular safety issues, concerns about children’s behaviour and, in particular, regarding the 3-mile limit for free transport. The Council resolved to hold a Public Meeting in the New Year to which the Heads of Shelley College, Scissett Middle and Primary schools together with Metro, Kirklees MC and bus companies have been invited, to see if some of the issues can be resolved.Over the past months the Council have shown repeated concern over speeding traffic in Huddersfield Road in the vicinity of Shelley College. There is a 30 mph speed limit in force on this stretch of road for the obvious reason that it is outside a school. The Council have and will continue to press the Police to enforce this speed limit for safety reasons and are awaiting improved road markings and signs agreed by Kirklees MC to be installed this financial year. January 2006The meeting opened with Clr. Barlow making a presentation to PC Steve Allen to mark his retirement and express the Parish Council’s appreciation for his long service in our community. The Clerk reported that Birdsedge Village Hall Committee had now received planning consent for improvement to their facilities. As the result of a petition handed to the Council in December regarding the condition of the children’s play area at Lower Cumberworth it has been resolved to pass this matter to the Finance and General Purposes Committee to investigate the possibility of allocating monies towards the improvement of play areas in the Parish.
