Cllr Birdsall first came into contact with the Parish Council through a campaign to save Cumberworth Road allotments in Skelmanthorpe from developers. Sitting in through many meetings his interest increased and he decided to stand for election in 2003. He is totally independent and supports no political party. Apart from his obvious interest in productive gardening, he has been interested since childhood in woodworking - making furniture and wood turning, using mainly local timber. As a member of the Parish Council, he is particularly interested in supporting schemes to improve facilities for young people.
