Minutes of the Annual Parish Meeting held on Tuesday, 5 May 2009 in the Civic Chamber, Council Offices, Skelmanthorpe

1. Minutes of the Last Annual Parish Meeting
It was RESOLVED that the minutes of the meeting held on 6 May 2008 be signed by the Chair as a correct record.

2. Annual Report of the Parish Council
The Chair of the Council presented the Annual Report of the Parish Council for the year 2008/2009. It was RESOLVED that the report be received.

3. Annual Report of the School Governors
Cllr Wilson presented a written report as governor of Shelley College and Cllr Waites presented a written report as governor of Scissett First School. Cllr T Sigsworth and Cllr R Allen presented verbal reports as governors of Birdsedge First School and Denby Dale Nursery respectively. It was RESOLVED that the reports be received and that appreciation be expressed to all schools and governors for the efforts undertaken during the past twelve months.

4. Reports from District Councillors
The Clerk submitted a written report from the Ward Councillors who were not able to attend the meeting. Members commented on the Veterans’ Celebration Day and noted that the Chair of the Council had not initially been invited despite the protocol which determined that Chairs of Parish and Town Councils be invited as a matter of courtesy to events taking place within their parish/town area. It was also noted that some veterans had also not been invited. It was RESOLVED that Kirklees Council be asked to confirm whether this event will take place annually and if so, if steps could be taken to address the problems which had occurred this year.

5. Reports from Voluntary Organisations with Official Representatives of the Council
5.1 Denby Dale Environment Trust
Cllr Alison Tribe presented a verbal report on the work of the Environment Trust and it was RESOLVED that the report be received.

5.2 Countryside Project
Cllr Graham Turner gave a verbal report on the work of the Countryside Project. It was RESOLVED that the report be received.

5.3 Public Rights of Way Forum
No report was available.

5.4 Rural Transport Partnership
Cllrs Waites presented a written report on the work of the Rural Transport Partnership. It was RESOLVED that the report be received.

5.5 Denby Dale Centre
Cllr Brook presented the latest Newsletter of the Denby Dale Centre and gave a verbal report on its work during the year. It was RESOLVED that the report be received.

5.5 Clayton West Millennium Green Trust
Cllr Sue Simpson reported that due to cancellation of a meeting and other commitments, she had not been able to attend a meeting during the year. It was RESOLVED that the report be received.

7. Thanks to Chair
Cllr Wilson moved a vote of thanks to Cllr Shaw for his contribution as Chair during the year.

8. Chair’s Closing Remarks
The Chair thanked everyone present for their attendance and the meeting closed at approximately 7.45pm.
